A Glimpse of Glam

Hey everyone!

Today I wanted to discuss with you all about design, specifically about designing in the future. This post is a part of the Design Blogger Competition organized by CGTrader. The style of this post is quite different from what I typically post here on my blog, and I am excited to share this with you all.

The term design is quite broad and general. It can refer to a multitude of things, whether it is fashion, graphic, or interior design. Design and art go hand in hand, and are interrelated, but not the same. Art can encompass a wide array of arrangements, and anything can be justified as art. Take Duchamp’s Fountain for example. Duchamp literally took a ready-made urinal, and manipulated its placement to create the argument that it’s art. Art is heavily based on its context, whereas design is a component within art.

Design refers to all the little intricacies within a composition. It is what makes us look and reconsider. It is everything that goes into making and creating a work. 

With our world as it is now, what would the future of design look like? A photo I took several months ago for a photography project that I thought captured one perspective of our entanglement with technology and obsession with the future.

In our present day, much can be said and done in attempts to predict the future. While we can guess what design will be like in the future, none of us are psychics, and we can never truly know what will be in store for us. Our past has happened, and there’s nothing we can do to change that. Our present is taking place in the here and now. As for our future? There is only our past and present to guide us into the unknown. Although our future has yet to come, much of the answers lie in our past and present. Sorry to sound all cryptic, but it’s true.

And before you even say it, no. In terms of designing for the future, this is not just a post about hover boards and the DeLorean. (Comment down below if you got that Back to the Future reference!)

In accordance to the topics I typically discuss here on my blog, fashion design has much to be considered for the future. While some may argue that fashion is merely a frivolous topic for those who prefer to focus on consumerism, fashion surprisingly is very intertwined with our daily lives in how it reflects the social, economical, and political happenings of our time. We can see the ups and downs of society through the way fashion undergoes its subsequent changes. In the 1920s-1930s, the feminist movement spurred and women began to join the workforce. This was clearly shown in the prevalence of the shorter hemlines and boxy silhouettes of women’s fashion during that time. After World War II as America recovered, there was an increased preference for nuclear families to create a semblance of a perfect, happy family after the horrific years of war and the creation of the atomic bomb. As a result, women’s hemlines dropped back down, and curves and frills were played up to emphasize women’s femininity. The proliferation of the stiletto heel corresponds to the technological innovations that made the extremely high, skinny heel possible to create. Fashion is clear evidence of history.

Fashion has a way of cycling, with styles returning in new and improved ways Remember a time when halter necklines were a thing of the past and not trendy, and it was all about low-cut plunging necklines?

Everything within the fashion realm revolves around seasons. Things go in style for a season, and are then cast aside for new styles to have their turn in the spotlight. But as we all know how history has its way of repeating itself, fashion too will as well.

We already see this evident in the return of the ‘90s. High-waist light wash denim, oversized jean jackets, choker necklaces, brown and bronzy colored lips, off the shoulder tops. Simply by scrolling through Instagram we can see how much of our current trends are reminiscent of the past. The other day I wore an oversized jean jacket that was actually my mother’s jacket from many years ago. And fashion has cycled back to allow that vintage piece to work with our current trends again.

However, not everything is exactly the same as before. While it is true that history repeats itself, and fashion reflects the ongoings of our lives, it is not an exact replica of the past. Rather, we look to the past in order to create our future.

Our current trends may take a lot of inspiration from the ‘90s, but it is not an exact return of the past. We shape our future with consideration of what has happened before. The past provides us with what was successful, and what needs improvement. In terms of the future of design, I believe we will see much of the past cycling back into the realm of things. Along with looking back at the past, the idea of returning to a simpler time accompanies that.

There is only so much innovation and advancements a society can handle. We have come so far in creating and inventing. History and fashion has its highs and lows, reflecting its golden ages and its periods of recovery. Perhaps the time has come to simplify. Embrace minimalism. Why else has there been an increased interest in minimalist styles? There is a beauty in simplicity.

We don’t need to layer fifteen gold chain chokers to complete an outfit. We don’t need bolder, brighter, louder prints to make a statement. We don’t need taller, longer, higher boots that go so far above the knee to create almost a pant-boot hybrid.

The future of design will entail more of a focus on the small things. Little details that makes things whole. Beauty in simplicity. Another photo I took for a photography project. Capturing the beauty in light refraction. Simple objects that have the capacity to hold so much and tell so much without needing so much.

The future of design will be in embracing the beauty in simplicity. After all, it's the small things that count.

I believe the future of design will entail looking back on what was successful, taking what we have, and reshaping it for the better into an improved product. Except, it will be about minimizing the excessive, unnecessary elements to focus on the details that matter. A look at the proliferation of natural "no makeup" looks, and minimalist wardrobes demonstrate examples of such already beginning to happen.

Due to all the political turmoil that keeps occurring, fashion holds its subsequent response. I believe the future of design will entail taking aspects of the past, and adapting them to accommodate our current needs. Looking back to a simpler, happier time for inspiration. It’s not always about the go, go, go, and the do, do, do. Life has become too fast-paced, too much about progressing and advancing and innovating. We need to take a step back, breathe, and live in the moment. Live knowing that we should be enjoying the present.

Hey everyone!

You read that title right! I recently made a YouTube video with one of my best friends. We had some (more like a lot) of time on our hands, and a perfectly working DSLR. We figured, why not do a video? As we are both fairly new to this YouTube thing, filming a video where we answered some questions as sort of an introduction was the best way to go. And, thus the TMI tag was chosen.



For the longest time ever, I’ve contemplated starting a YouTube channel. Not to join the mass of new YouTubers who recently started because of the supposed promise of fame and wealth. No. Rather it’s because it’s another platform, another medium in which I can express myself and utilize as a creative outlet. I’ve wanted to create some videos as a way to showcase another side of me, one that cannot be shown simply through visuals and writing.

Us being us

A couple weeks ago, I stayed up for over 36 hours because of a photography assignment where we documented changes in light over a 24 hour period. Luckily, I wasn’t stuck alone. I had one of my best friends with me. What started as something that seemed really tiring and annoying ended up being really fun. A new adventure.




I met my friend Jake early in January, as we were both taking a printmaking class. That’s where I also met Justin, who I’ve featured before in my post with JORD wood watches. The three of us hit it off quickly, and we soon became really close. There are times when you meet someone, and you just know right away things click. Jake is pretty much like my other half, the brother I never had, as we both are so incredibly similar it can be shocking at times.

I swear he brings out the crazy in me. When the two of us are together we CANNOT stop laughing! Our craziness and high energy is literally insane. He is incredibly funny and sassy, as am I. Those who say best friends take time is wrong because the two of us became close so fast.

You know you’ve got a friend for life when you spend the time not with them glued to your phone talking to them. The reason why my phone battery drains so easily is because we are literally ALWAYS on Snapchat. We definitely utilize those ridiculous filters to the max!

As Jake has a YouTube channel (called Thatsrightitsjj), we decided to fill the time between the photos during the 24 hour period by filming a video for his channel. We’ve been wanting to do a video together for awhile now, and we decided when would be better than then?

Through Jake's YouTube channel you will definitely get what I mean about his humor and sass. He creates comedic content, whether it be rants, reaction videos, or other random bits.

Thus we decided to do the TMI tag. Even though no one actually tagged him. But, that’s the fun of it. Answering a bunch of random questions as a way to awkwardly (or perhaps slightly not awkwardly) introduce yourself.

After watching, you might like me more, or you just might hate me. We literally filmed it at 5 am, after being half done with the project. It's a different side to me you've never seen before. Filming is surprisingly not awkward to me. I didn't feel weird being in front of the camera or anything. I wonder if it's perhaps I've been blogging for awhile now, so I feel comfortable in front of a camera? I have no idea.

Hey everyone!

I originally planned to post another outfit post, but I decided to push that off until later. What happened just this past weekend was so incredibly powerful and remarkable, I just had to talk about it. I’m sure you all know what I’m getting at. The Women’s March on Washington. But, more importantly, the way it grew into a worldwide movement.

Literally the past two days everything I came across was related to politics. The concert, the inauguration, #CakeGate, fashion designers’ refusals, the mishap on Twitter, and of course the Women’s March. I am so proud to be living amongst activists, amongst people who won’t stand for shit, who will speak up for what they believe in. I am so proud to be a part of history in the making.

However, this also makes me quite depressed. To know that even though we are living in the 21st century, we still have to fight for human rights, for equality. This is in no way the best comparison, yet I can’t help but feel like we are living, to some extent, in a real life version of A Series of Unfortunate Events. Only because disappointing things keep happening, and our reality is such a nightmare we can’t wake from. Yet, this march that just happened does give us a glimmer of hope. Hope that we are getting somewhere. Hope that this ridiculous nonsense will finally end.

The Women’s March was such a brilliant positive, despite everything else going on.



I may not be as much of a social activist as I could, but I still strongly believe in speaking up and fighting for what you believe in. Injustice won’t stop if you sit around just hoping for it to end. You got to do something about it to spread the message that it’s not okay. I’ve only read in textbooks about monumental activist events. I never thought I would live in one. It’s so crazy to believe that one day, textbooks will be documenting that day, Saturday January 21st 2017.

Women’s rights shouldn’t be an issue to discuss. We make up half the population. Yet, we are considered the minority. Who gave men the power to dominate? To act like they are superior? Women are every much as capable and strong and intelligent. Equality should not be something to fight for. Equality should be a given.

This goes for not only gender inequalities, but also racial inequalities as well. As someone of minority, in terms of gender and race, this strongly resonates with me. I’ve had to face racism before, and it doesn’t just hurt. It tears you apart, and hits you deep down. It makes you question what it is that’s wrong with you. It makes you doubt everything you are worth. Though sexism has luckily not been a problem for me, and hopefully not ever), that doesn’t mean I care any less of it. We should treat each other as we want to be treated. This philosophy we were taught from childhood is anything but childish.

I don’t care if saying this makes me lose readers. If I wasn’t clear enough before, I will be clear now. I am completely against the 45th “president” of America. I am very much anti-Trump. It disgusts me to even type out his name. I wrote the word president in quotes because I refuse to admit that this has happened. The fact that someone of so very little political background has managed to win the electoral votes. What the hell happened?! Is this some kind of joke?! This isn’t even an issue of Democrats vs. Republicans. No. This goes far beyond that. Everything about this repulses me deep down to my bones.



Friday evening, at the University of Washington, what was supposed to be a peaceful protest turned violent. This happened so very close to home for me. As in, UW is where I go to school. The fact that this happened at UW is so crazy.

In the past couple months, there has been a petition going around to prevent a speaker from coming to UW. A student group invited someone who is very controversial, who holds ridiculous views, to come to UW and give a talk. Many wanted this talk to be canceled. Yet the petition did not work. And in the hours prior to the talk, a huge protest started. Protesters from downtown Seattle, who were already protesting because the inauguration was that same day, joined in to help the cause. And then someone got shot, and suffered major injuries to the abdomen. I don’t really know the details of what happened, but it did frighten me. This national dilemma we are all facing that has heavily divided the country is real. For those who are removed from the situation and are only getting information from the news, it may not seem as real. But this is very much real.

We are all people. We all deserve to be heard. To be treated and acknowledged as people. America is supposed to be the place where hopes and dreams become reality. We've all come so far. I hope that we don't become regressive.

I fear what will become of the country I live in, but I also hold hope that it will get better. At least, that’s all that we can do for now. Hope that things will change for the better. And continue fighting for what we believe in. Thank you to everyone who is showing their support, who is doing all they can! Let's keep this up, let's keep speaking up.

Hey everyone!

My first post of the new year! If I haven’t already said it, HAPPY NEW YEAR!! It’s crazy that it is already 2017. 2016 is a thing of the past, and 2017 is the here and now. A warm welcome to you. Let’s hope this year brings about only good happenings, unlike the previous year, which was filled with ups and downs.

I hope you all had a wonderful holidays! With it being January, holiday season is coming to an end. Except for those of you who celebrate the Epiphany holiday on Jan 6th. I only know of it because I learned it when I took French back in middle school and high school. Not much French has stuck with me over the years, except for the parts pertaining to the occasions where we got to make and taste food. Because priorities.

For the holidays, I went to Canada (as usual because I literally go to Canada all the time). Spent a week with relatives on both sides of my family. Ate a ton of delicious food. Relaxed and did a lot of nothing. I would say it was a very productive winter break.

What did you do for the holidays? How did you celebrate New Year’s?

I know I get very repetitive, and that I say it year after year, but damn did the year fly by. I seriously cannot believe that 2016 is over. I feel like 2016 begun not too long ago. What happened? I mean obviously I know what happened, because a lot happened, but seriously the time went by way too fast to grasp.



In the past year, my blog really grew. I revamped this blog back in the fall of 2015, and really started putting in effort to make this exist. By early 2016, it started to actually become something, shaping into more than just one girl’s rambling thoughts. I’ve had the chance to collaborate and partner with many different companies. I’ve created and posted a ton of blog posts sharing with you all many outfit looks, some food recipes, reflections on current happenings, and more. Not to mention I’ve gained more readers, fellow bloggers of whom I’ve come to better know. Meeting new people, expanding my circles, all of this really made 2016 a great time for me.

Of course with highs there are lows. I shared long ago a post on toxic friends. 2016 was the year when I found out which friends were real and here to stay, and which friends were only there for the short term and for their own benefits. Losing people who were important to me really hit me hard. People you come in contact with, friends especially, shape who you are. When things split and change, there are mental and emotional repercussions. It takes time to adapt to a new reality, but once I did I knew it was for the better. Friends may play a major role in shaping you into who you are, but don’t let it become what defines you.

Despite that, other great things happened. I got to finally travel to the East Coast, and touch the Atlantic waters. It was a memorable trip that had me recounting it in multiple posts spanning several months. Literally up till the very end of the year.

Also, I am currently in my third year at university. I finally have a better grasp of how to go about what I want to do. I am majoring in Interdisciplinary Visual Arts, a fancy name for Art that isn’t specialized in just one medium. As in, I can do some of everything, with the freedom to incorporate it all into whatever style I want for my senior project. I am also double minoring, in Art History and Nutrition. I considered turning my art history minor into another major, but I decided that it would be too much. Beyond textiles and fashion, I finally found what inspires me in art that I can use in my studies. Definitely super helpful because I cannot keep meandering about. These last couple years at the university will definitely be packed, but at least I have a better idea of which direction to go.


The coming 2017 I really hope to continue expanding my circles, and going beyond my comfort zone. I’ve made a ton of good friends over this past year, many of whom I still keep in contact with. I had to force myself to stop being quiet in my classes, and to not be afraid to be the first to speak up. Usually I let others approach me, but it doesn’t hurt to be the one taking the first step. After all, if things go wrong, in ten weeks the quarter would be over and I won’t ever have to see their faces again. Taking some aspects of my customer-friendly persona at work, and applying that carefree cheery confidence into my daily life really helped me a lot. I definitely want to continue doing that. Pushing beyond those walls I’ve built in the past.

I also hope that this coming year my blog will continue to grow and achieve more. It can be difficult to set aside time to blog, as it is a job in itself. With school and my part-time job, it can be a lot to do. But the successes and achievements are worth the pain and hard work.

New Year’s Resolutions aren’t always the best choice for me. Sure making a list is easy. I can readily whip up a long list of things I hope to do and achieve. We all have things we want to improve on. But these lists don’t do anything to help me get closer to achieving my goals. What really helps is looking at past successes. Knowing that I have the capability of achieving certain things helps me to continue on and put in effort to make my goals happen. A competition between my past and present, if you will. Looking back on past me and wanting to surpass that really helps me make my aspirations a reality.

When comparing my current status with where I was at in the beginning of 2016, I definitely think that I've gotten somewhere. I made some New Year's resolutions last year to help guide me. I think that I have achieved my resolutions more or less. Be an achiever, be daring, be simple, be experimental, be myself. Those where what I set out to do and improve on. Check, check, check, check, and check..?

Sorta kinda maybe...?

I mean I think I've grown and gotten closer to where I want to be. Maybe not all of them to their fullest, but definitely somewhere. Let's go with that.


How do you go about achieving your New Year’s Resolutions?

I really hope this coming year will be a good one. Let’s see how this goes. In a short 365 days I will be looking back and comparing. I wonder what future me will think. If you could gaze into the future… Shut up. I’ve been watching way too many Disney Channel reruns. Back when the shows used to actually be entertaining and worth watching. Hey everyone!

I have a wonderful story to share with you all today. For once when someone asks me how my weekend was and how I am doing, I can respond enthusiastically saying I'm doing GREAT and actually mean it! Whenever people ask out of pleasantries and politeness how you are, you generally just dish out a vague response. "Oh I'm doing good" or "Okay" or "I'm alright". None of those generic responses apply to me today because I am in a great mood. A brilliant high carrying over from yesterday. The residual emotions still pumping through my veins.

I met TWO celebrities today. Two actresses who I love and stalk follow religiously. And one of them was Lana Parrilla.

I met one of my favorite, favorite, FAVORITE actresses from one of my FAVORITE TV shows. Lana Parrilla, who plays the Evil Queen Regina on Once Upon A Time. The other actress I met was Rose McIver. She plays Tinkerbell in Once Upon A Time as well as Liv on iZombie. Both TV shows are incredible, and have really enticing storylines. Watch them if you don't already! 

Okay, lemme backtrack to the beginning.

One of our many visits to Steveston where Once Upon A Time is filmed. This was from 3 years ago.

My sister and I are huge fans of the show Once Upon A Time. The show takes place in Maine. However, they happen to film in Steveston, a town near Vancouver, Canada. As Steveston is located quite close to us in Seattle, we venture there occasionally in the hopes of running into the stars. I also should mention how only my immediate family lives here in the US. All our relatives and extended family lives in Canada, specifically Vancouver. Because of that, we already visit Canada on a regular basis. It is such a coincidence how our favorite show films so close to where we already go. But that was as far as luck carried us. We saw the set of OUAT, and walked through the buildings and shops featured on the show. But we never got to meet any of the actors in person. Specifically Lana Parrilla, whom we are both obsessed with.

There was one time where we happened to catch them filming. Who knew filming ONE scene in an episode would take an entire day?! They were also incredibly far away, so it was hard to actually see them.

However, back in November, we found out that Lana Parrilla would be attending 2016's Emerald City Comicon, which takes place in downtown Seattle. It was fate. Not only was Lana there, but also another one of our favorites, Rose McIver, would be there as well. We just HAD to seize the opportunity, and so we bought tickets. We have been counting down the days until April 10th since mid-November. Yeah, I know. We are crazy, and our obsession is insane.

Comicon was a completely new experience for us. We didn't know what to expect. Because we religiously follow our favorite celebrities on their social media, we knew Lana Parrilla and Rose McIver were going, but also a few other celebrities we knew of as well were attending. David Anders, also from iZombie, went. As did the actors who played Fred and George Weasley in the Harry Potter franchise. Our priority was to go to Lana's panel and interview, get photos with both Lana and Rose, and autographs from the two as well. We hoped to have the time to go to other panels and do other activities, but in the end there was no time for that. We spend the majority of the time standing in line.

There were two times for us to get autographs from Lana. We tried going to the first one, but the line was so incredibly long! She was also 20 min late. We had to rush to get our photo with Rose, which we pre-ordered online beforehand (along with one for Lana) to ensure we would get it before they were sold out. Luckily, we made it the second time around. If we hadn't, I seriously would have punched someone. Lana was THIS close, in the SAME building, in the SAME city. We were fangirling to the extreme. And I got no shame in admitting that.

If you have ever met your favorite celebrity, then you will understand the nerves and surreal-quality that overwhelms you in the moment when you actually come face-to-face with them. Our hearts were pounding so hard. We were jittery and restless.

Many Evil Regals, the name for fans of Lana/Evil Queen Regina, do a particular hand gesture in their photos. We both planned to do so, but my sister was so nervous in the moment she messed up and did a hang-ten instead. When we got to get an autograph from Lana later on, we ended up telling her the story. She laughed so hard! This is how we could tell she is very genuine, kind, and real. She actually threw her head back laughing, and showed a real reaction.

Besides that, I gotta say spending all that money going to Comicon was definitely worth it! We also got to meet Rose McIver. She is so incredibly sweet in person! Her accent is really cute too. I love accents. It's weird I know. Whenever I meet someone with an awesome accent, I get mesmerized. It's probably because I don't have one myself. I mean, yeah I have an American accent, but that doesn't really count. Because I live in America. You know what I mean?

Meeting Rose was amazing. She was also so real with her fans as well. The group ahead of us in line had two little boys, and she was so sweet to them.

We got a photo with her first. Later on in the day, we also got an autograph with her. I wish to have talked to her longer, but it wasn't a meet and greet. We also had a conversation with her and asked her how she was liking Seattle, and she told us she wanted to stay longer because she really liked her stay here. What really struck me was how when she signed the photo, she thought she had messed up or something and was concerned about the Sharpie ink drying. She told us to make sure it dried so it won't smudge, and that was just so sweet and considerate of her! Things like this makes the experience so memorable. I really like how she was very real and authentic. 

You could see that sparkle in her eyes, and feel the energy in the air. It was such a surreal moment meeting our favorite actresses in person. One moment you are watching them on screen and seeing them in a photo; next thing you know, they are RIGHT in front of you. In real life. Looking exactly how they do on screen, only slightly different. It's really surreal.

I am so thankful to have had this opportunity. I wish I could replay it, relive it over again. Sure I get to visit the actual town where they film, but with things like this you are always at the wrong moment at the wrong time. You can miss them by just a mere hour. Fate had it that they came to Seattle. And we actually were able to buy the tickets to attend and meet them. The line could have been too long that we missed the chance, or tickets could have been sold-out. Instead, everything fell into place perfectly, and we had an incredible experience.

I really wish to have another opportunity to meet them. It's like a drug. Once you get a small taste of it, you just want more. Nonetheless, Sunday was amazing, and I'm still riding that high. I look back on the photos, and I still can't believe it. Surreal indeed.

Quick update on my life. Spring is finally here. The weather is getting warmer out. The sun is shining (on the rare days when it isn't storming out because Seattle likes to constantly rain). Best of all, I am on break! Only for a week, but it is still better than nothing. After a hectic, stressful quarter, nothing feels better than to be able to lie around at home guilt-free.

Remember how I was worried about my finals? Yeah, there was more to the story than that. As I've mentioned before, I was taking a ceramics class, art history, and nutrition. However, it was the ceramics class that caused the most stress for me. I am an art major, but I also thought that ceramics would be a nice, relaxing class I could take that would require little brainwork. I was way off. Ceramics is a fickle medium to work with; the many complicated projects we were assigned left me staying really late many nights, and constantly worried about the state of my clay. Luckily, I had some previous experience working with clay because I took some classes back in high school. But, it was still a struggle.

I feel like a lot of times, professors don't realize that as college students, we have other things going on in our lives besides their one class. Add onto that my desire to seek perfection, and you can see why I was so stressed out. For our final project, we had to create a work to perform a ritual that involves three or more people. I came up with a great idea. I had it all down and nearly finished, when it broke. Not just a few minor cracks here and there. No. It was broken to the point where I just had to restart. Once I had FINALLY finished redoing 30 hours of meticulous work, it broke again. But in a different spot. I literally felt so frustrated, I was tempted to just throw it all out a third-story window and break down in tears. That last part (the crying) did happen... But I did manage to salvage what I had in the end! Thank the lord, or else I would have reconsidered my choice in major, which would lead to me rethinking going to college, and then contemplating becoming a hermit who never leaves her parents' house. Ever. Am I exaggerating? No... Maybe.. Okay fine yes. But if you were in my position, you would have felt the same!

Other than that, my finals went well! I aced my other tests. I'm now happily enjoying break knowing that the quarter was stressful, but worth it. Relaxing is nice, but it feels weird to not have something to worry about. Stress can be kind of addicting. Or is that just me?
