Hey everyone!
It's been a busy week for me. Lucky for you (is it really? I don't know. I'm only assuming because I'm hoping you all enjoy it), I'm here sharing with you all an outfit I've worn recently. It's definitely on the dressier side, so not exactly an everyday look suitable for everyone. But, for me, this is how I dress on days when I want to put in some effort and to feel confident. A lot of times I go for outfits that are easy to whip up in a matter of seconds that still end up looking put-together, outfits perfect for the everyday lazy girl (the girl I am at heart). However, there are days when you just want to look good for the sake of looking good, and you don't mind putting in some effort. Even if that means sucking in your tummy and sitting properly.
Lately, I've been obsessed with throwing on a simple skirt, top, jacket and accessorizing with a printed scarf. It's literally my go-to outfit. Of course, I add on a pair of tights as well because it's still winter here in Seattle, and I get cold.
Yes, this requires some effort because you have to actually pull on the tights, and adjust your skirt so that it sits properly, but it looks good so it's worth it. At least I think so. And my opinion is what matters to me the most. (Though I do value all your guys' opinions. All I'm saying is that if you love it, then you do you. Don't let your decisions be too influenced by those around you)
This past week, I've had to stay at school until late at night for several of my classes. Normally, I finish my classes by early afternoon, and I get to go back home to relax and do other things. I live at home and commute to campus, so going home takes a short while, about 30 minutes. I planned out my schedule so that even though I have to wake up at the crack of dawn each morning, I finish early and have the rest of the day to do other things that have to be done. The classes I'm taking also require a lot of my time outside of class, as art and art history classes often do. You sure can't take home a kiln to fire your ceramics pieces at home, though you can try. Which is why having all that extra time is helpful.
That being said, all that extra time I normally get to have to relax was taken up by midterm projects and essays this past week. That's why I haven't posted anything in a week. I've been trying to post about twice a week, but it's hard when so much stuff gets in the way.
Anyways, I really love the vibrant blue hue of this skirt. It's really brightens up the look, and is eye catching without being too attention-grabbing. I paired it with dark gray opaque tights, which brings out the coolness of the blue in a way that black tights wouldn't. I added a white lace jacket because I felt that the white and blue go really well together. I love the look and fit of this jacket. The lace makes it unique, and it can really spruce up an outfit. You can transition white lace from winter to spring super easily. White lace is a definite must!
I finished the look by wrapping a leopard print scarf around my neck, and throwing on my everyday black boots. These boots are my absolute favorite because they can make any outfit look slightly edgier without taking too much attention away from the main features. I think the scarf complements the white and blue of the rest of the outfit, and adds that necessary touch of color and pattern to finish it. What do you guys think?
The weather has been rainy and gloomy too, which makes it all the more difficult for good photos. Luckily it was cloudy and overcast when I got these photos taken. That's the perfect weather for photos for me, as the sun isn't there blinding me and I'm not being drenched with rain either.
When I have days where I have to stay later at school, I like to dress nicer. My logic is that I will be interacting with more people for a longer amount of time, which is why I like to feel more confident and look better at those times. When I've only got one class and it's a huge lecture, I just throw on a nice, but casual outfit and that's bout it. I don't like "wasting" a good outfit on a day where it can earn less mileage. Any of you out there who feel the same?
How do you guys feel bout my makeup look here? I realized, I've never done a makeup post before. Lemme know in the comments below if you want me to do a makeup look!
The hairstyle here is something I love to wear when my hair is at the perfect amount of greasiness, right around the 4th day. It holds braids better, plus there's more volume and texture from the previous days' of styling. I only ever do no-heat hairstyles, so this is also a good trick to have. It's simply two French braids combined into one chunky braid. I posted this look on Instagram a long time ago. Comment down below if you would like a tutorial!
I can't stand wearing jeans or anything constricting when I have to wear a certain outfit for long periods of time. This is why skirts and tights are the best thing for me. Yes skirts can be uncomfortable for some. But to me, they are ten times better and more comfortable than jeans ever will be.
Because it is winter, I also threw on a big black winter coat with a fur hood. This coat is SO warm and the fit of it is perfect for outfits like these. I love coats with belts, even if I don't use the belt because they really add something to it. I hardly use the hood though because I don't want to look like an eskimo. Which is why when it rains and I'm wearing this coat, I feel like I look too bundled up while others around me are sporting a thin hoodie.
How has your year been so far? It's nearing the end of January. Crazy how fast time flies. We're 1/12 done with the year. My year's been pretty good. I've been following my resolutions more or less... More on the "less" side. Maybe. Sort of. Kinda. I've been trying, and that's what counts.
I would love to hear your thoughts on this look! Lemme know in the comments below what you think!
Are you the type to dress up on days where you've got more to do, or are you the type to lean more towards comfort on busy days?
I hope you all have a lovely week. Thanks for reading!
Til next time,
~A
