Time

Hey everyone!

I felt like talking about something that has been on my mind lately. This is more related to the whole "life" part of my blog. I just wanted to address the whole idea of Time.

I am a senior in high school and I will graduate in less than two weeks. Prom was last weekend and after that huge event has occurred, graduation hit me harder than ever. I cannot believe it has already been four years since I started high school. I still feel like that reserved freshman girl I was four years ago. I still feel like nothing has changed, like I haven't matured much yet. In many ways I have, and in many ways I haven't.

My whole life I would imagine how things would turn out years from now. I would imagine having the perfect high school life, the ideal. I would have a boyfriend, be social and outgoing, join clubs, accomplish things. And though I can tell that I have accomplished much since my freshman year, I also feel like I haven't.

I feel like I am running out of time, like there is only so little time left for me to get that high school experience. Except, why do I want that "ideal" so badly anyways? I can honestly say that I did have a good high school experience, even though it was not completely how I anticipated it to be.

There are still some things I wish I could do, some things I wish I could have done differently. However, I know that it is only the things that I haven't done that I can still do and still have control over. I just need to learn to let go of the past and accept it all as how it is. I honestly just want to make sure I have no regrets when I move on from high school and enter the real world.

I can't believe I will graduate soon, and I wish everyone else who is in my position the best of luck! Good luck in college or with whatever else you choose to do. There is still your whole life ahead of you for you to do as you wish, for you to make it how you want. Just go for it and reach for you dreams. Don't let your self-doubt and fears hold you back from anything.

Word of advice to all freshmen or other grades: do all you can now and do not be afraid of just trying. You will only be mad at yourself later on if you choose not to act when you can. Have fun and enjoy the time you have! Good luck to you all too.

This is not a typical update of mine, but I just wanted to talk about something that we don't normally discuss. Anyways, school is almost over and I will be putting more effort in updating more frequently! I also will post pictures of my prom dress, which, by the way, is a dress that I embellished and personalized myself.

Getting Ready for Prom 2014

Hey everyone!

I am truly sorry that I have not been updating lately! I have been super busy with AP tests and other school work. I know that is no excuse and I did promise that I would update more and post some great stuff, and I am soooo sorry! Thank you to those of you who are still here! I really will work hard to keep up my promise. Anyways, graduation is right around the corner and everything is happening so fast. But before the school year ends, there is of course PROM!

To those of you who do not know what prom is, prom is a dance that typically seniors have at the end of the school year. It is this one special event that only seniors have, but they can invite underclassmen and others though. Some schools have a junior prom as well; mine only has one for the seniors.

I know that you guys will want to get all dolled up and look picture perfect for prom. However, occasionally there can be some issues that you may stumble upon. Here are some tips to ensure that you get to experience the perfect prom!

Looking for a Dress
The dress is very important. Whichever dress you decide on should be one that fits the occasion and is unique. Try on your dress beforehand and make sure it fits the way you want it to. Your dress should be comfortable enough that you can move around without having to adjust it every 5 seconds. Also, be sure to check that your shoes not only match your dress, but that the dress is the perfect length for your shoes. If not, you can always get your dress hemmed.

Hair and Makeup
It doesn't matter where you go to get your makeup done. As long as you are satisfied with it, that is the only thing that matters. For me personally, I like to do my own makeup simply because I know exactly how I like things and I trust myself to do a good job. Hair, on the other hand, that is a different story. Whereas for makeup you can quickly and easily remove it if you do not like how it turns out, you cannot fix your hair as easily. Make sure that you go to a stylist that fits your requirements. Do not go to a place you have never been to before. Talk to your stylist and go to a place that you know well or that someone you trust recommends. Once your hair is done, it's a lot more difficult to fix what with all the product and styling it goes through. I mean, do you want to wash and dry and restyle your hair? Because that sure would take longer to do than to redo unsatisfactory makeup. Also, know your hair and know your skin. If your hair tends to uncurl easily or whatnot, do not get your hair done too early or else it will look completely disheveled by the time of the dance. For some people, makeup tends to look better after wearing it for several hours; if that is the case, definitely have your makeup done first before anything else. If it is the complete opposite where your skin is super oily and makeup does not last well, try to do your makeup last and bring a few items to touch up.

What to Bring
You do not want to go to the dance and find that you are not prepared! Bring a small clutch or purse and pack a few necessities. I recommend to bring a pack of tissues, a lip gloss or lipstick that you were using, lip balm, concealer, band-aids, your ID, mints or gum, and at least an extra 10 bucks. Don't forget a few quarters in case that something comes early and there is a dispenser thing in the bathroom (you know what I mean right? Mother Nature's wonderful monthly gift).

That's all I can think of for now. If I happen to have more tips, I will definitely let you know! I hope that those of you going to prom this year will have a wonderful time! My own prom is in about week, I can't even believe it. I am not even done with fixing up my dress yet! Anyways, let me know how it goes for you guys!

Working Out Our Workout Issues

Hey everyone!

Lately I have noticed that I have been actually exercising more frequently and more willingly. Yes. I know, sounds weird huh?

Alright, let's backtrack and start from the beginning. In case you do not know, I am the most unathletic person ever. I hate exercising and I am terrible at sports. And I mean so bad that the sight of me playing sports might send you to the ER because you will bust a lung while collapsing with laughter. I try, really, I do. But it never works out to my advantage; only rarely, and I should stress RARELY, do I ever do okay in a sport. You might think, well what about running? No one can ever mess that up. Hahaha! Well, you better rethink that statement, hon. You obviously havent met the one person who could. Yep, this girl.

So how exactly do I manage to not gain hundreds of pounds because I really love food? Well, the simple answer is that I exercise, despite my intense hatred towards exercising.

What I do is I try to nip the problem at the bud. The biggest issue we face is being lazy. So before I let the couch potato in me take over, I force myself to rethink what I am doing. Should I really be sprawled across the sofa, the TV blaring in front of me, letting my mind turn to mush? Yeah the answer is no. Instead, before I even let my butt touch the couch and my hand reach for the TV remote, I think about how much time I have to waste. That hour of watching old Once Upon a Time episodes could be better spent doing other stuff, like exercising. Next time you see yourself just sitting there, stand up for a moment. Sure, you can still have the TV on, but why not try doing some sit-ups while watching? Or if there is a set of stairs nearby, go over there and run up and down, multiple times. Do not just run up and down once and call it quits.

I am an extremely lazy person. I have a problem with getting motivated to do stuff. This is something else I tried too. If you find that you have a lot of time in the morning, right after you wake up go and slip on your workout clothes. Tie your hair up tightly in a ponytail or whatnot. This way, you have one less excuse. You are already dressed for the part so why not go one step further? A major problem is actually getting started, so this is a way to help prevent that.

Another thing is that I highly recommend creating a workout schedule to stick with. Something reasonable that you would likely stick with. Don't be too eager and say "I will exercise an hour every single day!" if you are the type who don't even own a pair of sneakers. For me personally, I plan to exercise four times a week, not counting my dance classes. Being reasonable really helps with keeping you motivated, for if you start off thinking you can't stick with the schedule, then you will most definitely quit after the second day.

I really hope this helps. Coming from a person who also hates to exercise, I feel you. And for all you lucky fools out there who love to exercise or are good at sports, props to you! I hope your positive attitude towards exercising eventually rubs off on the rest of us.

How do you guys feel about exercising? Is it a major pain? And how do you stay with your schedule?

I am still alive!

Hey everyone!

First off, I am incredibly sorry I haven't been updating the past 3 weeks! I really, truly apologize! I have been super busy the past several weeks with school. I had so many tests to study for and lots of homework. I just couldn't find the time to update and I am really sorry!

Right now, I have a break again and I definitely plan on updating more. I have some new ideas to post and I currently am working on a special post! It's almost ready; I have been working on that for quite some time and I really hope you guys will like it!

Anyways, I just wanted to remind everyone that this blog is still here, I haven't deserted it! I will be posting more stuff later on this week.

Study Time Snack Break: Homemade (sort of) Froyo

Hey everyone!
There are always those days where you get super busy and stressed out. During those times, you tend to crave comfort foods like junk food or sweets. I know that for me, when I am all stressed and cramming for a test, I tend to reach for that chocolate bar that's sitting there begging to be eaten. But, before you reach for those empty caloric foods, try making your own froyo!

My container of frozen Activia Light yogurt
It is super easy to make. It only requires two steps: purchase your favorite yogurt and put it in the fridge for a couple hours. Voila! It is done! Afterwards, thaw it for several minutes and you can eat this delicious frozen treat.

This helps satisfy your cravings for sweets, such as ice cream. But, it is yogurt so it is a better substitute. Although this will not create an exact replica to the frozen yogurt that you can get at your local grocery store (as in it is not as creamy, so the consistency is different), it is still a great treat you should try!

I find that when I eat normal yogurt, I can go through the container pretty quick. It is so easy to eat, you know? But by freezing it, it takes more time and effort to consume. It also gives you the feeling of satiety way faster. So you can feel full quicker, and you aren't even eating more calories. That's a pretty good deal!

Give it a try! Let me know how it turns out for you! And what types of yogurt do you like best?

All Natural Beauty Product: Coconut Oil ...plus a crazy surprising use!

Hey everyone!

One of my favorite beauty tricks is super cheap and affordable. It barely makes a dent in your wallet. I love using coconut oil in my daily beauty routine. It is so moisturizing and the delicious smell makes it all the more better!

Dr. Bronner's Magic All-One fresh pressed unrefined virgin coconut oil
The type of coconut oil I use is unrefined virgin coconut oil. It only cost around $9-10 for 14 oz. Unrefined virgin coconut oil is one of the best forms because the oil had undergone the least amount of processing, so it still holds most of its nutrients. Coconut oil mainly is made up of lauric acid, which gives it its antibacterial health benefits. There are also many antioxidants in coconut oil that can really nourish your skin.

An empty jar I use to store coconut oil
You can use coconut oil as part of your beauty routine, or you can stick with simply consuming it. I suggest to scoop some out and store it in a different jar, if you were to use it as a beauty product. This will help reduce contamination, in case you plan on using it for cooking as well. I store mine in this old empty jar.

This is how it looks in the jar. At room temperature, coconut oil is in a solid form. I like that because it is way more portable than olive oil. When I travel and bring olive oil, I store it in a tightly sealed container and slip it into a plastic bag. But, somehow that oil loves to leak out and make the entire bag a shiny, slippery mess! Now that I have also integrated coconut oil into my routine, I plan on bringing this with me instead!

Room temperature, solid coconut oil
Coconut oil slowly melting on my finger only after a minute
So, I know what you might be thinking. How can I use this oil if it's all solid? Do I go and heat it up in the microwave to melt it? No! Save yourself that extra work. Here's a magic trick: Coconut oil actually melts when it touches your skin because the warmth of your skin makes the oil melt! (Ooh, ahh) Otherwise, if it is just sitting at room temperature, it will be solid. After barely a minute of having that glob of coconut oil on my finger, the oil was already melting!

I like to use coconut oil as a moisturizer for my skin and my hair. I like to rub the tiniest amount in my fingers then comb it through my freshly-washed wet hair. I also use it on my lips as a lip balm. Some people like to use it as an eye cream for the nighttime because while it has antioxidants and will nourish and moisturize your skin, it is super gentle and good for sensitive skin. I have sensitive skin and this works great for me!

Coconut oil can help heal wounds faster and can help protect your skin. This is a great alternative to many commercial beauty products because it is all natural. If you are feeling daring, you can actually replace most of your beauty products with coconut oil! It can be used as a lip balm (or a base for a DIY lip balm), as a skin moisturizer, as hair conditioner, as a face wash with the Oil Cleansing Method, and more.

There is also something else quite bizarre that you can use coconut oil for. It actually doesn't seem that weird, once you actually think about it.

You can use coconut oil as deodorant. Yes, a deodorant!

I'm guessing you are probably thinking, What?! That is crazy! But, I am serious though! Since coconut oil has antibacterial properties, it can be used as deodorant. The lauric acid helps kill the bacteria that causes you to smell bad when you sweat. Although coconut oil itself is not an antiperspirant, it will help you not smell bad when you sweat. To easily make a DIY deodorant, you can mix in one part baking soda to one part coconut oil to make an antiperspirant deodorant. The baking soda will help absorb the sweat and the coconut oil will prevent you from stinking and scaring away your friends. You can also just simply use coconut oil by itself as a deodorant, for it works too! Unless you sweat buckets, then I suggest adding in the baking soda and perhaps some arrowroot powder to help absorb sweat.

Lemme know what you think about using coconut oil as part of your beauty routine! What other all natural beauty products do you use?

Spotted: Statement Jewelry

Hey everyone!

I love to get dressed up for no reason sometimes. Just slip on a nice outfit, fix up my hair and makeup, and complete it all with the perfect accessories. I find that the finishing touch to an outfit is the accessories you add to it. You can even dress up a boring old t-shirt just by adding a statement necklace. It's so easy the laziest person on Earth can accomplish it.

The other day when one of my friends got all dressed up, I noticed the jewelry she had stacked on her fingers and wrists. They were so unique, matching her edgy rocker glam style so well.

Mixed metals bracelets and rings
My friend is an incredibly talented musician, hence the pictures showing her playing the keyboard. She was in the middle of showing us her latest original song when I interrupted her to take pictures of her jewelry.

Pyramid ring; overlapping coil ring; gold  midi ring (barely shown)
I always love her jewelry. I am the girl who has a ton of necklaces and she is the girl with a ton of cool rings. I love her ring collection. Only she can wear that many statement rings on one hand, and pull it off!

Rings and bracelets
This is a picture of her rings and her bracelets. I admire how she is not afraid to mix metals. She is wearing gold and silver and black bracelets. For all you jewelry-shy people out there, do not be afraid to mix metals! I personally think that mixing metals looks really good, as long as the style of jewelry still matches. If she was wearing an engagement ring or something fancy, then I would think that hunk of rock did not match and I would volunteer to take it (down the street to the pawnshop! Hahaha jk!!). But, since all these pieces had unique styles, yet a similar theme going on they all worked.

Intricate gold studded ring
I particularly love this ring! I saw it on her finger and I was thinking, Oh my gosh! I need to try it on! It just looks so amazing!

All of her jewelry were statement pieces. They showed unique styles and reflected her personality. Of course, to accessorize an outfit, you don't necessarily have to choose such big and bold pieces! A simple ring, bracelet or necklace would do too!

What types of jewelry are your favorites? Is there something you tend to wear everyday? For me, its a silver charm bracelet and this silver and pink ring.
